Mutual of Omaha Employees Create Holiday Cards for Military Troops

Mutual of Omaha employees and their families gathered to craft holiday cards to be collectively sent to deployed military troops through the USASOA Christmas Cards for Our Troops program.

OMAHA, Neb. – On Wednesday, Nov. 20, Mutual of Omaha employees and their families gathered to craft holiday cards to be collectively sent to deployed military troops through the USASOA Christmas Cards for Our Troops program.

Mutual of Omaha’s Veteran Employee Resource Board (VERB), an employee resource group that provides support and recognition for veterans, their families and allies, provided the craft supplies and hot cocoa and employees, along with their families and guests, provided the creativity and holiday cheer to create holiday cards to thank and lift the spirits of our deployed military troops while they are away from their families during the holidays.

With many members of VERB knowing first-hand how meaningful it is to receive cards and mail while deployed, the event is becoming a meaningful holiday tradition.

“As a military child, this event always resonates deeply with me, as it does with many others,” said Mutual of Omaha Supervisor Anna White, who serves as vice president of VERB. “It’s incredibly heartwarming to see families come together to create these beautiful cards for our deployed troops. Each year, we’ve surpassed the previous year’s card count, and I’m excited to see how many we have this time.”

“This event continues to grow each year and it truly is a testament to our amazing employees and their families,” said Mutual of Omaha Finance Analyst Molly Fellows, who serves as President of VERB.  “Supporting veterans all year long is something that VERB loves doing, but making an impact for active duty military during the holiday season is even more meaningful. These service members are deployed away from their families and if we can at least put a smile on their faces during this time, we’ve done our part.”

Mutual of Omaha has offered multiple opportunities for employees throughout the campaign. Last year, VERB mailed 600 holiday cards. Attendees created more than 100 cards at the Nov. 20 event alone and expect to exceed last year’s total. The public can join the effort at the Holiday Lights Festival on Saturday, Nov. 30, where Mutual’s VERB employee resource group will have a booth with cards available to personalize with your own message to soldiers.
